Captain Liam and the Lost Moon
Liam buckled his silver helmet and pressed the big blue button. The rocket hummed, then roared, then leapt off the launchpad like a dolphin jumping out of the sea. Up, up, up he flew, until the sky turned from blue, to purple, to black sprinkled with diamonds.
"Welcome to space, Captain Liam," chirped a friendly voice. It was Beep, his little robot co-pilot, whose head blinked in seven colours.
Their mission today was to deliver a tiny lost moon back to Saturn. The moon, no bigger than a beach ball, sat in a glass jar bouncing softly. "Don't worry, Mooney," Liam whispered, "we'll get you home."
They sailed past Mars, which waved with a dusty red hand, and dodged a parade of comets that left long sparkly tails like ribbons at a birthday party. But near Jupiter, the rocket beeped sadly. The fuel was almost gone.
"Think, think," said Liam. He remembered his teacher's words: stars give energy. He carefully steered close to a small bright star and stretched out the rocket's solar wings. Whoosh! The wings drank the starlight and the rocket sang back to life.
At Saturn, the rings spun like a giant glowing carousel. Liam opened the jar, and Mooney floated out, twirling with joy. The other moons cheered in tiny silver voices, and Saturn's rings glowed a little brighter.
On the way home, Beep made hot cocoa that floated in perfect bubbles around the cabin. Liam caught one with his tongue and laughed. Space was enormous, and a little scary, but with a clever plan and a kind heart, even the biggest sky felt just the right size.
